BJP gherao 'New TMC' MLA Sandipan Saha's house in Entally, protest over 'cut money'
A powerful explosion rocked Char Chakmari village in Murshidabad’s Sagarpara area on Wednesday morning, leaving a 27-year-old youth severely injured. The victim, identified as Najmul Haq, suffered gruesome injuries as several fingers on his hand were blown off in the blast. The incident, occurring near the Bangladesh border, initially triggered panic among local residents who feared a cross-border attack.
Najmul was rushed to the Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment. While hospital sources confirm he is out of danger, he has sustained multiple injuries across his body. Following the blast, Sagarpara police arrived at the village to initiate a probe into the nature of the explosives and why they were stored in a residential area.
Preliminary police investigations suggest that Najmul has been involved in various criminal activities in the past. Officials suspect the bomb may have been intended for smuggling across the border or was being moved from its storage spot when it accidentally detonated. To prevent any chance of the victim fleeing, the police have placed him under strict guard at the hospital.
The incident has prompted a large-scale search operation in the border village. Local police, alongside BSF personnel, are combing the area for any other stockpiled explosives. This blast follows a recent trend in Murshidabad, where hundreds of bombs have been recovered by authorities throughout the month, highlighting a significant security challenge in the district.
